BELARUS: Lawyer Aljaksei Barodka disbarred and jailed<\/h2>\n

Belarusian lawyer Aljaksei Barodka has been detained since 2023 for political reasons. He was first detained for 15 days on the basis of an administrative report, and then re-arrested as a defendant in a criminal case.<\/p>\n

Following his arrest, he was deprived in absentia of his lawyer\u2019s licence and his profile was removed from the website of the National Bar Council of Belarus.<\/p>\n

His trial proceeded at an accelerated pace; on 15 May 2023, Aliaksei was sentenced to prison for \u201cincitement to social hatred\u201d and is serving time in a medium security colony.<\/p>\n

On this International Advocacy Day at Risk, we call for the immediate release of lawyer Aljaksei Barodka.<\/p>\n
