{"id":13066,"date":"2023-01-27T09:57:07","date_gmt":"2023-01-27T09:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/protect-lawyers.org\/journee-internationale-de-lavocat-en-danger-2023-loiad-se-mobilise-pour-lafghanistan\/"},"modified":"2023-01-30T10:56:36","modified_gmt":"2023-01-30T10:56:36","slug":"2023-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/protect-lawyers.org\/en\/2023-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"2023: Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every year on the 24<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of January, the International Day of the Lawyer in Danger mobilises the international community on the difficulties and threats to the practice of law.\u00a0<strong>The situation of lawyers in Afghanistan was chosen for the year 2023.\u00a0<\/strong>Lawyers have been targeted since the Taliban government took power on 15<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of August 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The impossibility or even the prohibition for women to practice their profession and the obligation for men to obtain a new licence under the control of the terrible Taliban Ministry of Justice, undermine the free exercise of lawyers\u2019 profession. Not to mention the dramatic deterioration of the rule of law, jeopardising the lives of thousands of Afghans, including many lawyers, forced to flee or hide in the country.<\/p>\n<p>On the occasion of this international day, the OIAD is organising a virtual\u00a0<strong>conference on the 20<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of January 2023\u00a0<\/strong>entitled\u00a0<em>\u201cThe defence of defence in times of crisis\u201d<\/em>, which will provide an opportunity to discuss the situation in Afghanistan, but also in Ukraine and Iran.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>Join us online for this mobilisation day.
