{"id":24758,"date":"2026-01-22T08:00:39","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T08:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/protect-lawyers.org\/?p=24758"},"modified":"2026-01-23T07:46:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T07:46:18","slug":"press-release-2026-world-day-of-the-endangered-lawyer-united-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/protect-lawyers.org\/en\/press-release-2026-world-day-of-the-endangered-lawyer-united-states\/","title":{"rendered":"Press release \/ 2026 World Day of the Endangered Lawyer: United States"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the World Day of the Endangered Lawyer on 24 January, the International Observatory for Lawyers at Risk (OIAD<em>)<\/em>is dedicating its 2026 edition to the worrying situation of lawyers in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Historically considered a stable democracy, the United States is experiencing increased political pressure, smear campaigns and attacks on the independence of lawyers and other legal professionals.<\/p>\n<p>These trends particularly affect professionals working on sensitive issues such as civil rights, immigration, police violence, the environment and electoral justice.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, the Observatory has noticed an increase in online intimidation, targeted investigations and measures likely to discourage lawyers from taking on certain cases, thereby compromising access to justice.
