She is best known for her involvement with the Lawyers\u2019 Association for Freedom (\u00d6zg\u00fcrl\u00fck i\u00e7in Hukuk\u00e7ular Derne\u011fi \u2013 \u00d6HD) as a member of the board of directors.<\/p>\n<p>On the evening of 20 May 2025, Ms G\u00fcla\u011fac\u0131 was arrested by police officers whilst on her way to Kand\u0131ra Prison to meet her client. She spent the night at the police station and was transferred the following day to \u00c7a\u011flayan Court, where she gave her statement to the prosecutor at around 3 am. Following her questioning, the prosecutor referred Ms G\u00fcla\u011fac\u0131 to the criminal magistrate with a request for judicial supervision in the form of house arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, <strong>on 21 May, the criminal magistrate <\/strong>issued <strong>an order for house arrest in absentia against Ms G\u00fcla\u011fac\u0131 <\/strong>without her being brought before a judge, and solely on the basis of documents <strong>\u2013 an alarming escalation that has only heightened concerns<\/strong> regarding these criminal proceedings based on her professional activities.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing took place on 13 April 2026, at which Ruken G\u00fcla\u011fac\u0131 was acquitted.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/protect-lawyers.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/OIAD_Rapport-de-mission-_TURQUIE.Avril2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Read the mission report<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Observation of the trial of: Ruken G\u00fcla\u011fac\u0131 Date of the mission: 12\u201314 April 2026 Date of the report: May 2026 Description: The OIAD, represented by its delegate Christine Charlot (Guyana Bar), attended the hearing of lawyer Ruken G\u00fcla\u011fac\u0131 on 13 April 2026.
