  • March 24, 2026March 24, 2026

Trial observation of: Ahmed Souab

Date of hearing: 23 February 2026

Report date: March 2026

Description: Alessandro Magoni (Brescia) represented the OIAD during the trial of Ahmed Souab in Tunis on 23 February 2026.

Mr Souab was arrested in April 2025 after criticising the judicial system and stating that “lawyers are not the only ones with a knife to their throat; judges find themselves in the same situation.” Following the first-instance proceedings, the lawyer was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and three years of administrative supervision. The present trial observation mission concerned the conduct of the appeal proceedings.
